The plan
Paint a pre-carved wooden alebrije with Jorge Avelino Fernandez, drawing on the decorative traditions of Oaxaca. Participants work with base coats, fine patterns, dotting and color mixing to create a small sculpture to take home. The workshop welcomes ages eight and older and is taught in English and Spanish, making it a useful shared activity for an older child and adult. All supplies are included, so the main preparation is registering before the small class fills. Set aside the full two hours for the making process rather than treating it as a drop-in craft table.
