A shaded playground with turtle-themed learning, a few steps from the beach.
The plan
Allison Park is a useful North Beach base when a family wants more than sitting on the sand. Start with the enclosed playground, look at the turtle educational exhibits and make a beach detour only if everyone still has the energy. The mix of grass, seating and play equipment makes a short visit worthwhile without needing a full beach-day setup. The setting is public and practical, with paid parking separate from free access to the park.
Who the play area suits
The city lists playground equipment for ages 5–12, with shade canopy, rubber surfacing and accessible components. Swings include toddler, youth and accessible options. Seven HealthBeat fitness stations, including a hand cycler and Tai Chi wheels, are for ages twelve and older.
Useful facilities
Open sunrise–sunset daily. There are picnic tables, benches, fountains and public restrooms on the street beside the metered lot. Beach access is adjacent. Check sea conditions separately before deciding to swim; park opening is not a swimming-safety guarantee.
Before you go
Bring shoes for the playground and water for everyone; you can add sand time later rather than starting with all the beach gear.
