Contemporary art without an admission bill, easy to combine with the neighborhood’s outdoor design and public art.
The plan
ICA is a strong free museum option in the Design District, with contemporary exhibitions that reward a focused visit. Timed tickets are recommended because capacity can be limited even when admission costs nothing. A free exhibition tour starts in the lobby at noon on open days. The museum closes Monday and Tuesday and on selected holidays; oversized bags and luggage cannot be stored onsite.
Free tickets and the noon tour
General admission is free, but timed reservations are strongly recommended for capacity reasons. A complimentary exhibition tour leaves the lobby at noon on open days; visitors still need their museum admission reservation. For a group larger than nine, request the museum’s group arrangement instead of booking an ordinary informal gathering.
Hours and what to leave behind
The museum opens Wednesday–Sunday, 11am–6pm, and closes Monday, Tuesday and selected holidays. It does not offer storage for large bags or luggage. Wheelchair access is available; photography restrictions include no flash or tripods. Check current exhibition information before choosing which galleries to prioritize.
Before you go
Book the timed ticket first, then plan the rest of the district around it; larger groups need a separate arrangement.
