Walk the ocean side of South Beach, with palms, sand and Art Deco just across the street.
The plan
Lummus Park is a particularly easy way to enjoy Ocean Drive without making the afternoon revolve around a restaurant bill. Follow the paved paths, take a beach break or stop to watch volleyball before continuing past the Art Deco streetscape. The city lists accessible paths running across ten blocks, so a short out-and-back is just as reasonable as a longer walk. It is a public park visit: beach chair concessions, food and vehicle parking are separate purchases.
Play, movement and facilities
There are playgrounds for ages 2–5 and 5–12, water fountains and public restrooms around 6th, 10th and 14th Streets. Outdoor fitness areas at 6th and 9th Streets operate 7:30am–sunset. The park also has sand volleyball courts.
Pick your pace
The park opens daily from sunrise to midnight. Early or late daylight is more comfortable for an unhurried stroll. Bring water and sun protection, and check beach conditions before making swimming part of your plan.
Before you go
Choose a meeting point by a numbered street; “meet at Lummus Park” covers a surprisingly long stretch.
