A family museum stop that connects familiar animated characters with the real science and problem-solving behind a film.
The plan
Animation becomes something to investigate rather than just watch in this hands-on exhibition. More than 50 activities introduce the stages of making a Pixar film, from modeling and rigging to lighting and rendering. It is inside the first-floor Hsiao Family Special Exhibition Gallery. The recommended starting age is seven, although younger children can explore with an adult; this is part of a museum visit.
What children actually do
More than 50 interactive activities explore eight parts of animation production, including modeling, rigging, animation, simulation, lighting and rendering. The exhibition is in the first-floor Hsiao Family Special Exhibition Gallery. Age seven and up is the suggested starting point, with adult support for younger children.
Make it part of the museum day
The exhibition is included with regular museum admission rather than requiring a separate Pixar ticket. Pick up the Animator Pass at the entrance for related activities beyond this gallery. Your visit can continue into the aquarium and other museum exhibitions; check the selected date’s closing time.
Before you go
Pick up the Animator Pass at the entrance to connect the Pixar activities with discoveries elsewhere in the museum.
